Producer Profile: Greg MacGillivray

Production Company: MacGillivray Freeman Films
Occupation: Producer/Director/Cinematographer
Active Years: Over 30
Birthplace: Southern California

As a cinematographer, Mr. MacGillivray has shot more 70mm film than anyone in cinema history -- more than two million feet. His Laguna Beach company has produced films for the large screen motion picture format since their release of To Fly!, in 1976. Twenty years later, To Fly! was selected by the Librarian of Congress for inclusion in the National Film Registry, America's film archive, as one of the most important films of 100 years of filmmaking.

MacGillivray also worked in Hollywood, directing and photographing for Stanley Kubrick on The Shining, and filming for the Academy Award®- nominees Jonathan Livingston Seagull and The Towering Inferno.

MacGillivray Freeman Films has produced 25 giant screen films, and has developed two innovative cameras for the big format -- the high-speed (slow-motion) camera, and the industry's first lightweight camera. His popular 1995 release, The Living Sea, was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Documentary Short Subject. Five years later, his second ocean-themed film, Dolphins, also received a nomination for a 2000 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. His company also produced Everest, a compelling story of a team of international climbers and their quest to reach the summit of the world's tallest mountain. Everest was the first large format film to reach the "Top Ten" box office chart in North America.
