From National Geographic Entertainment comes the education-heavy film, Asteroid: Mission Extreme.  The film details all things asteroid, and looks to the future of space missions involving the study and potential uses of asteroids.  With its main focus on science, the film satisfies the edu-tainment genre, but would likely hold less interest for general public.

Offering a straight-forward yet dry narration from actress, Sigourney Weaver, the film explores the nature of asteroids and the Earth's connection to them (from the extinction-level asteroid impact during the dinosaur era to modern day encounters with these space objects).  The film touches upon the possibility and potential consequences of a large asteroid hitting Earth.  Thankfully, it doesn't linger long enough to panic audiences with phantom threats of Earth-destroying asteroids.

Rather, the film moves into the realm of possibilities -- what could conceivably be our future in space exploration by utilizing asteroids as sources for fuel and possibly even water.  Naturally, this makes the entire film rely on computer-generated images which are serviceable at best.  Nevertheless, these looks into budding human missions on asteroids could certainly provide fuel for the imagination, and perhaps even inspire a new generation's interest in space.
