Active Years: 2
Co-founder with his brother Steve of Giant Screen Sports, Don Kempf brings to the venture a decade of diverse professional experience as well as the passion of a lifelong sports fan and sports film buff.
After earning a BA in history from Dartmouth College, Kempf began his professional career as a high school history teacher, first at Culver Academy in Culver, Indiana and then at Aspen Country Day School in Aspen, Colorado, where he also worked part-time as a ski instructor. While teaching, he and his two brothers started a small sports apparel company. After three years of teaching and other part-time pursuits, Kempf decided to return to his hometown of Chicago and enter the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, from which he earned an MBA in 1994, with concentrations in marketing and entrepreneurship. Prior to launching Giant Screen Sports, Kempf worked for two years as a product manager at Abbott Laboratories and then for two years as a management consultant at Renaissance Worldwide.
As a lifetime Chicago sports fan, Kempf is particularly proud of his involvement in bringing the larger-than-life Jordan to eight-story high screens around the world. As a former high school teacher, he is also very excited about producing inspirational films that can have a positive and uplifting impact upon kids.
