Movie: Haunted Castle (3D)

Well I gotta say.  This film if you can understand the reality behind the imagery of fiction was spot on the mark.  It portrays the real life of the music industry.  Johnny is portrayed as your typical youngster who has a passion and talent for music.  Mr.D is portrayed as your typical big time record label executive out to sign new talent to use and abuse for self gain.  I think the actual tour through Mr.D's haunted castle was to aim at showing Johnny where he would end up if he didnt sign with the big corporation.  Basically as a lost music soul, washed up and wasted because of no recognition through no corporate support and promotion.  But just like Neo in the Matrix and other super heros in films, Johnny sees the preview for what it truly is.  Tearing down the fear and the false pretences of what his shown, to see what its truly like in the music industry.  That these big record labels take your raw talent and then mold you into a money making scheme in which they make all the profit.  Bands such as the Chillie Peppers and Black eyed Peas are 2 such groups who you will notice have bowed down to the main stream to record shallow pop tunes to suit the market to increase sales and record profits.  Ofcourse this doesnt bother them.  They get rich and dont care but they have sold there soul to the devil by doing such.  Johnny wont have a bar of that.  The ending of the film is the films creators basically making a statement that if you are determined enough to do it the hard way.  You will succeed.  The world maybe caught in the matrix, but new ideas do find there ways to evolving at some stage and with the end of the film where Johnny is singing to a packed house portrays this.  It is truly a deep film if you can get into the reality behind it.  Films like these must be looked at as reality to make any deep and meaningful impression.  Its always there.  Imagination is just the expression of one persons truth.  It is not fiction.  It is always based on fact.

I am 36 years old and first saw Haunted Castle 3-D in Las Vegas at the Luxor IMAX the day after celebrating my 33th birthday with a close, lifelong friend.  We had purchased tickets to the show along with tickets to a second IMAX feature.  I was already a veteran fan of the format and was looking forward to expanding my list of films.  Haunted Castle was great.  The visuals and the 3-D effects truly made me feel as if I was actually in the Castle with Johnny (the film`s hero).  The music was enchanting, especially his mother`s song as she sings from the crystal ball in the center of the room.

The entire time I felt as if I was on a Disney style ride that drew me in with each passing minute.  When the show was over, I was sorry that it had finished.  I didn`t want Haunted Castle to end.  I was tempted to turn around and buy a ticket for the next show.

Well, that was in September of 2002.  While doing some Christmas shopping in December 2003 in Florida, I discovered a copy of Haunted Castle on DVD.  It was packaged with a couple of other N-Wave films along with a neat device that allowed you to view the films in
3-D on your home television set.  I made that purchase on the spot just over two years ago and I have never regretted it.  I`m happy to own a copy of this film.  Of course nothing can beat seeing this film in 3-D on a large format screen, but I still get the same feeling now, watching it at home, as I did when I first saw it in Vegas.  It`s creative, imaginative, daring and just plain fun.  Thanks to Director Ben Stassen and all who worked hard to make Haunted Castle 3-D a fun and enjoyable film.

Warning.....this film is not for children.  Adults only.  It`s dark, spooky and fun.  That`s what I like about it.  It doesn`t take itself too seriously and the audience shouldn`t either.  It`s entertainment.  See this film with an open mind and no preconceptions or expectations and you just might be surprised and more importantly, you just might enjoy yourself.  Imagine that!  Have fun and enjoy!

I just saw this in Vegas yesterday, and while I was overall disappointed, it is staying with me.  Mostly because of the excellent music choices. The song "Little Things of Venom" by Arid opens the experience so well.  As we pan around the castle and the rocky shore and know something wicked resides within, waiting for us and that hypnotice baseline carries our heartrate up a few beats, the anticipation to be terrified is already touching our limits.
But then we meet Mr. D's henchman, a demon with a Brooklyn accent?!?!  Immediately I was out of the experiences.  And Mr. D himself was no better.  Why was the devil locked in a fireplace when he supposedly possesses so much power, and why did he talk like Marlon Brando in the Godfather?  I know, they were trying to liken him to just such a mafioso type character, but it just ruined the whole movie for me.  Had he and the demon had voices of no specific accent but were still laced with evil, it would have changed the whole experience.  But either make me laugh, or scare me...if you try to mix the two, most times you fail and this one failed for me.  The mechanical monkey thing didn't work either.  This could have really been a disturbing, fright fest, but the effects were way too slow, and the cartoon voices were way too distracting.
Had they shown it in a venue where the seats moved with the action on screen, such as the Race For Atlantis ride at Ceasar's Palace, I would have forgiven the poor voice-over choises because it would have been a much more exciting experience, even scarier.
Something to consider.  Maybe the makers of Haunted Castle ought to get with an engineering firm and try it.  I think you'd have a whole new concept...and have someone like Alan Rickman and/or Kenneth Branaugh redo the voices of the evil characters.  We Americans do seem to think the devil will speak with an English accent for some reason...

The film was spectaculur with the 3-d effects. But what concluded the film for me was the music within the film
once you hear it you wont forget it. The people who made this film have obviously spent alot of time to recreate what i would call a short film but worth watching every second of it. Dont just take our word for it watch it. The
people who have made this also have more 3-d films comeing out soon goto nwave.com and check it out.

I went to Las Vegas recently and saw Haunted Castle at the Luxor I-MAX theater along with an IMAX space film.  I personally thought that both films were great but the 3-D effects from Haunted Castle not only stood out more but captivated the attention of the watcher more.  I loved this movie and i intend to go out and buy the system player along with 2 sets of 3-D goggles and (of course) Haunted Castle the movie!

My wife and I decided to watch a movie, so we calle dthe IMAX theater nearby to see what was playing.  Haunted Castle immediately drew us to the theater based soley on the name.  Not knowing what to expect, and not having heard or seen any promotional ads about this, we did not know what to expect.  Upon arrival at the theater we suddenly came to realize that the movie was 3D.  This further hightened our curiosity and desire to see the film.  So we retrieved our 3D headsets, strapped them on and began the adventure into oblivion.  The first several minutes of the film were extrordinary in view, sound, and emotional feel.  The movie was very captivating, exciting, and provided a fresh new perspective for the IMAX experience.  At the end of the movie I was eagerly reading the credits, something I normally don't care for, to see who in the world designed and manufactured such an exhilerating film.  I was thoroughly impressed!!
My wife is not a computer junky like I am, and afterwards she turned to me and said "That was awesome!", something I never would have expected her to say given the technology of the film, being that it was almost entirely computer generated.
I used to work for an IMAX theater for 3 years and became accustomed to the standard, almost expected, environment that IMAX typically places the audience in...nature, education, etc.  Since I had left that job, I never went to see an IMAX film.  So, going to see Haunted Castle was definatly a breath of fresh air, and proved to me that I could once again enjoy the IMAX experience in a new perspective.  This is a great movie.  GO SEE IT!!

I had a really good time!  It was my first IMAX 3D experience and I loved it!  The music was great!  I do think that the rating should be changed to PG-13.

Pretty impressive visuals and 3D computer-animation technology, but a truly laughable attempt at a story line.  Also, whoever scripted the dialogue -- I think they need to stick to holding the camera, or doing the animation . . . anything but putting a pen to paper.

I did really enjoy the music, though, especially when Johnny sings opera!
