December 26, 2006: Night at the Museum IMAX Opens Strong
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM opened to exceptionally strong box office results in IMAX® theatres during the four day Christmas holiday weekend. The digitally re-mastered IMAX release grossed $2.3 million at 72 domestic IMAX theatres from Friday, December 22 through Monday December 25, 2006, contributing to the film becoming the country's number one box office hit. December 20, 2006: Happy Feet IMAX Grosses $10M
HAPPY FEET: THE IMAX EXPERIENCE has grossed $10.6 million since premiering on November 17, 2006. The film opened on 79 domestic IMAX screens and will ultimately play on a total of 28 international IMAX screens. December 18, 2006: Night at the Museum IMAX Opens Dec. 22
The digitally re-mastered IMAX® release of Twentieth Century Fox's NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, an adventure comedy directed by Shawn Levy (The Pink Panther and Cheaper by the Dozen) and starring Ben Stiller and Robin Williams, will come to life in IMAX's format when it opens in 72 IMAX® theatres in North America this Friday, December 22, 2006. December 15, 2006: IMAX Corp. Strategic Alternatives
IMAX Corporation reported that, after an extensive period of review of potential strategic alternatives to enhance shareholder value, it has determined that a sale or merger of the Company at this time will not achieve this objective. Accordingly, the Board of Directors and management believe that focusing on the growth of the worldwide IMAX network and strategic business initiatives are the best means at present to grow IMAX's value to shareholders. December 12, 2006: New Orleans Artists on Bayou Soundtrack
The soundtrack to HURRICANE ON THE BAYOU will be released on December 22, 2006, to coincide with the worldwide release of the new giant screen film by the same name. The 19-track CD was arranged by award-winning composer and long-time MacGillivray Freeman collaborator, Steve Wood, and featuring some of Louisiana's most beloved musicians who are also the four main voices in the film — blues guitarist and environmental activist Tab Benoit, zydeco specialist Chubby Carrier, Toussaint, and teenaged pop prodigy and fiddler Amanda Shaw. December 5, 2006: IMAX, LMM to Open 7th China Theater
IMAX Corporation and Lark International Multimedia announced an agreement to expand an existing theatre deal with the installation of a seventh IMAX MPX® theatre system at a multiplex in The People's Republic of China. The new IMAX® theatre will be retrofitted into an existing opera house that is attached to a multiplex in the city of Wuhan, and is expected to be open in the first quarter of 2007. November 28, 2006: Happy Feet IMAX Highest Grossing Second Weekend
IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures announced that HAPPY FEET: THE IMAX EXPERIENCE carried momentum from its record breaking opening weekend with a strong performance through the Thanksgiving holiday, posting the highest grossing second weekend ever in IMAX® theatres for a DMR release. On 79 IMAX® screens, the film contributed an impressive $2.25 million of the film's weekend total of $37 million, from Friday, November 24 through Sunday, November 26. November 21, 2006: Happy Feet IMAX Record Opening Weekend
IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that HAPPY FEET: THE IMAX EXPERIENCE contributed $2.4 million of the film's $41.5 million domestic gross on its opening weekend, representing the strongest IMAX opening ever for an animated title. The IMAX gross came from 79 IMAX® theatres, posting a three-day per-screen average of approximately $30,000 from Friday, November 17 through Sunday, November 19. Click here to read the press release.
November 14, 2006: Nat Geo Sets Sea Monsters Premiere Date
National Geographic will premiere its new giant screen film SEA MONSTERS: A PREHISTORIC ADVENTURE in IMAX® and other specialty theaters worldwide on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007. Presented in both 2-D and 3-D formats, Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure brings to life some of the most bizarre, ferocious and fascinating creatures to ever inhabit the ocean. The Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure video game release will coincide with the Oct. 5, 2007, worldwide premiere of the film. Click here to read the press release
November 8, 2006: IMAX Q3 Financial Results
IMAX Corporation reported that primarily because it did not install any theatre systems in the third quarter ended September 30, 2006, it incurred a net loss of $0.30 per diluted share for the three month period. The Company emphasized, however, that it has during the recently completed quarter signed five theatre deals, bringing the year-to-date total to 25, including four of which remain subject to conditions. For the 2005 third quarter, the Company had net earnings of $0.05 per diluted share. For the three months ended September 30, 2006, the Company's total revenues were $20.7 million. Systems revenue was $7.3 million, as the Company recognized revenue on the sale of one theatre system in the third quarter of 2006. For the third quarter of 2006, film revenues were $7.7 million, including IMAX DMR revenues of $3.4 million, theatre operations revenue was $4.7 million and other revenue was $1.0 million. November 7, 2006: NMNH Launches Sharks 3D
The National Museum of Natural History launched 3D Entertainment's SHARKS 3D last Wednesday, November 1st. The film, playing at the Samuel C. Johnson IMAX® Theatre, is presented by Jean-Michel Cousteau and focuses on a multitude of shark species, including the Great White, Hammerhead, and Whale Shark. Click here to read the press release.
October 25, 2006: Night at the Museum Set for IMAX Release
IMAX Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox announced that NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, directed by Shawn Levy (The Pink Panther and Cheaper by the Dozen) and starring Ben Stiller and Robin Williams, will be simultaneously released to both IMAX® and conventional theatres on December 22, 2006. The film follows good-hearted dreamer Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) as he takes a job as the graveyard-shift night watchman at a museum. During Larry's watch, the exhibits come to life, and amidst the chaos, the only person Larry can turn to for advice is a wax figure of President Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams). October 19, 2006: IMAX, Mexico Theater Deal
IMAX Corporation announced an agreement with Cinemas Martinez to install IMAX® theatres as part of two new multiplex developments in Mexico. The first IMAX theatre is scheduled to be installed during the third quarter of 2007 in the city of Torreon and the second is scheduled to be installed during the first quarter of 2008 in the city of Chihuahua. October 5, 2006: IMAX Signs Bogota, Colombia Theater Deal
IMAX Corporation announced an agreement with Plaza de las Americas-La Gran Plaza Comercial de Bogota, a prominent retail developer in Bogota, Colombia, to install an IMAX® theatre as a new attraction in the Plaza de Las Americas, the country's largest and most highly-visited mall. The theatre is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2007. The mall's new IMAX theatre will boast Colombia's largest screen, and will be capable of showing IMAX presentations in 2D and IMAX 3D. October 4, 2006: Open Season IMAX $1.45M Opening Weekend
IMAX Corporation and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that Sony Pictures Animation's OPEN SEASON grossed impressive box office results at IMAX® theatres this past weekend, wowing moviegoers with an immersive IMAX® 3D adventure. The IMAX 3D version of the animated feature earned estimated grosses of $1.45 million in 66 domestic IMAX theatres, delivering a per screen average of approximately $22,000 over the three-day period from Friday, September 29 to Sunday, October 1. September 27, 2006: Superman IMAX Grosses $30M
Bryan Singer's SUPERMAN RETURNS, which has grossed more than $388 million worldwide to date, continues to show strong legs in IMAX® theatres through its 13th week. The IMAX® 3D release, which has set multiple IMAX box office records, has now earned $22.7 million on 92 IMAX screens domestically and more than $7.5 million on 36 IMAX screens internationally. September 26, 2006: GSCA Announces Award Recipients
The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) awarded achievements to Large Format films at this year's international conference. Deep Sea 3D took home four awards including The Special Achievement Film Award and Best Film Produced for Giant Screen Theaters. Best Soundtrack was awarded to MacGillivray Freeman Films' Greece: Secrets of the Past, while Roving Mars received Best Film for Learning. September 11, 2006: IMAX Signs Brazil Theater Deal
IMAX Corporation announced an agreement with Circuito Cinearte Ltd., one of Brazil's fastest growing exhibitors, to install an IMAX® theatre as an anchor attraction at the new Bourbon Shopping Pompeia in Sao Paulo, Brazil, scheduled to open in 2007. Located in a rapidly growing and prestigious area of Sao Paulo, the new shopping center will be one of the city's most prominent retail developments, with 220 businesses and a 10-screen multiplex. The IMAX theatre in Sao Paolo will be capable of showing Hollywood blockbusters, as well as a wide variety of original IMAX films, in both 2D and IMAX® 3D, and will also include the IMAX MPX® theatre system. September 7, 2006: Sharks 3D Accelerates Roll-out
3D Entertainment Ltd.'s SHARKS 3D is accelerating its roll-out at IMAX theatres around the world and has been licensed at 71 locations in 17 countries to date. The film has drawn 3 million viewers worldwide so far, with box office revenues standing at $20.1 million ($11.9 million domestically), and established itself as the second-highest grossing IMAX theatre documentary film released in 2005. September 7, 2006: Dino Don, Sky High Team for New Exhibit
Dino Don Inc., Exhibits Rex, and Sky High Entertainment have teamed up to bring Giant Dinosaurs of Patagonia: The Exhibit, the official traveling exhibition for the film DINOSAURS: GIANTS OF PATAGONIA. The gala exhibition will feature Argentinosaurus, the 125-foot record-holding dinosaur, and Giganotosaurus, the largest meat-eater; both stars of the new large format film. August 25, 2006: Donald Sutherland to Narrate Dinosaurs
Donald Sutherland is set to do the narration to Sky High Entertainment's upcoming film, DINOSAURS: GIANTS OF PATAGONIA. Already having completed narration for the trailer, Sutherland is due back in the recording studio in November to complete final narration for the film. Dinosaurs will be released March 1, 2007. August 21, 2006: MediaMerge IMAX Division Expands
MediaMerge, the largest third-party IMAX servicing agent in the world, has expanded its reach by opening a new remote service office in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to be led by certified IMAX theater technician Lauren Bacala. Additionally, growth within MediaMerge's media systems integration division has triggered the hiring of three new staff members and a reorganization of the service and installation departments at its Chelsea, Alabama headquarters. With the addition of Bacala, MediaMerge now counts three certified IMAX technicians among its staff, servicing the 10 theaters currently maintained by the company. August 9, 2006: IMAX Q2 Financial Results
IMAX Corporation reported net earnings of $0.08 per diluted share for the quarter ended June 30, 2006, compared to net earnings of $0.03 per diluted share reported for the three months ended June 30, 2005. For the three months ended June 30, 2006, the Company's total revenues were $41.4 million, as compared to $30.9 million reported for the prior year period. Separately, the Company provided an update regarding its exploration of strategic alternatives, including the possible sale or merger of the company. The Company reported that while it received significant initial interest from multiple parties, its view is that there are presently no buyers who have indicated a willingness to acquire the Company at a valuation sought by the Board of Directors. August 7, 2006: IMAX 2-Theater Ukraine Deal
IMAX Corporation and Kinokompaniya "Triumph", a leading film production company in the Ukraine, announced an agreement to install two IMAX® theatres in the Ukraine, with the first to open in the capital city of Kiev. The theatre is expected to open in early 2007. The second IMAX theatre is scheduled to be installed in a retail development in a major city outside Kiev in early 2008. August 3, 2006: Meryl Streep to Narrate Hurricane
Meryl Streep will narrate the MacGillivray Freeman Films' upcoming giant screen film, HURRICANE ON THE BAYOU, shot in the midst of Hurricane Katrina and featuring powerful giant screen images shot before and after the devastating storm. This marks the second giant screen film narrated by Streep, following her participation in MacGillivray Freeman's Academy Award® nominated giant screen documentary The Living Sea. Hurricane on the Bayou will open August 29 at the Entergy IMAX Theatre in New Orleans to coincide with the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and on September 8 at the California Science Center IMAX Theater in Los Angeles, and to IMAX theatres worldwide on December 22. August 3, 2006: Audubon to Premiere Hurricane
Audubon Nature Institute will premier its first-ever IMAX® film production, HURRICANE ON THE BAYOU to the public on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at 12 Noon at Entergy IMAX® Theatre. The film, produced and distributed by two-time Academy Award-nominated filmmakers MacGillivray Freeman Films, depicts the story of the impact that Louisiana's disappearing wetlands has on storm protection. This dramatic tale of nature's fury will be released to coincide with the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the biggest natural disaster in American history. July 31, 2006: Dinosaurs Launches March 2007

July 26, 2006: Superman IMAX Grosses $20M+
SUPERMAN RETURNS, which has grossed more than $290 million worldwide to date, is showing strong legs in IMAX® theatres through its fourth weekend. The IMAX® 3D release earned approximately $1.4 million on 77 North American IMAX screens and an estimated $625,000 from 27 international IMAX screens between Friday, July 21 and Sunday July 23. To date, the film has earned $20.7 million in IMAX theatres worldwide, becoming the fastest grossing digitally re-mastered IMAX release in the Company's history for an impressive worldwide per screen average of $201,000. July 25, 2006: Spider-Man 3 in IMAX May 2007
IMAX Corporation and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that Columbia Pictures' highly-anticipated new action adventure SPIDER-MAN® 3 will be simultaneously released at theatres throughout the world and at IMAX® theatres on May 4, 2007. The third installment of the phenomenally successful Spider-Man® franchise will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience®. Spider-Man® 3 reunites cast and filmmakers from the first two blockbuster adventures including Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Rosemary Harris and J.K. July 24, 2006: Dodge Joins MFF in Business Dev

July 24, 2006: IMAX Expands in Russia
IMAX Corporation and Rising Star Media announced an agreement to install an IMAX® theatre in KinoStar City, soon to be Russia's largest Cinema and Family Entertainment Complex, located in St. Petersburg. The theatre is expected to open in early Spring, before IMAX's summer season which already includes HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, set to open in July 2007. July 6, 2006: Superman IMAX Smashes B.O.
Superman Returns grossed $108 million at the domestic box office in 4,065 locations over the extended fourth of July weekend, and SUPERMAN RETURNS: AN IMAX 3D EXPERIENCE contributed $6.83 million, representing a record seven-day per-screen average of $89,804. The film shattered every opening week record for an IMAX Hollywood simultaneous release, playing to sell-out crowds and strong audience satisfaction.
