Writer Mose Richards’ poetic words and director Breashear’s stunning visuals take audiences on an adventure of the human spirit. Traveling through five climatic zones, with conditions ranging in similarity from the moist humid heat of the Amazon to the barren, dry climate of Antarctica, trekkers encounter strange and beautiful landscapes while continually testing their inner strength and endurance.
Bill Anderson and Julie Yuen’s magnificent editing of the film, along with Alan Williams’ compelling music and Robert Fernandez’s mastery of mixing sound bring to life one of the most mysterious mountains in the world.
Breashears’ film credits include: director of the dramatic large format-film Everest; director of photography and producer of the Telluride Mountain Film Festival Grand Documentary Prize-winning Red Flag Over Tibet; director of photography for Seven Years in Tibet, a feature film starring Brad Pitt; and Cliffhanger, a feature film starring Sylvester Stallone, for which he was a cameraman, climbing consultant and advisor. Richards has written or co-written the following large-format films: Shackelton’s Antarctic Adventure; Africa: The Serengeti; and Alaska: Spirit of the Wild. Williams has composed and conducted music for the large-format films Amazon and Island of the Sharks and Fernandez is known for his work on the feature film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Kilimanjaro: To the Roof of Africa is a David Breashears film produced by Kilimanjaro Inc., in collaboration with the Houston Museum of Natural Science: the Denver Museum of Nature & Science; Museum of Science, Boston; and Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. Kilimanjaro is scheduled for release March, 2002. The Houston Museum of Natural Science is the executive producer and worldwide distributor of Kilimanjaro: To the Roof of Africa.
