GSTA Award Winners Announced at 2001 Conference

GSTA® Announces Large-Screen Film and MAC Award Winners at 2001 Conference

Sept. 22, 2001, St. Paul, Minnesota – The Giant Screen Theater Association® proudly announced the winners of the Film and MAC (Marketing Achievement and Creativity) Awards at the GSTA Achievement Awards Ceremony, held at the Navy Pier® Grand Ballroom.

The films were judged based on their creative talent and excellence in giant screen filmmaking, with the Lifelong Learning Award presented to the one film that best represented the development and presentation of giant screen film experiences from a lifelong learning point of view. Films considered included any film that was released and played at a regular (theater) member’s theater from Jan. 1, 1999 to April 30, 2001. This year’s film award winners are:

Best Film: Shackleton’s Antarctic Adventure
White Mountain Films and NOVA/WGBH - Boston

Best Cinematography: Shackleton’s Antarctic Adventure
White Mountain Films and NOVA/WGBH - Boston

Best Soundtrack: All Access
IMAX Corporation

Lifelong Learning Award: Dolphins
MacGillivray Freeman Films in association with the National Wildlife Federation
Major funding provided by the National Science Foundation and Museum Film Network

The MAC Awards recognize creativity and excellence in marketing campaigns, which have been developed for both film and theater launches, and nominees included films released from May 2000 through June 2001. The MAC Award winners for 2001 are:

The Giant Screen Theater Association (GSTA) is a nonprofit association dedicated to the worldwide growth of the large format film industry by supporting the developers and presenters of giant screen film experiences. Founded in 1977, GSTA is the oldest and largest international association serving the large format film industry with 360 member companies consisting of theater, developing theater, and associate members.
