Ground-Breaking Laser Projection System to Enable IMAX® Theatre
At TELUS World of Science Edmonton to Access Full Spectrum of IMAX Content

NEW YORK - April 18, 2013 - IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX; TSX:IMX) and the Edmonton Space and Science Foundation today announced an agreement to install IMAX's next-generation laser digital projection technology at the TELUS World of Science - Edmonton's IMAX® theatre. The new technology, which is expected to launch in 2014, will enable the theatre to deliver a wider array of the highest-quality digital content available - including both documentaries and blockbuster films - and further enhance The IMAX Experience® for its guests.

IMAX's next-generation projection system is expected to set a new benchmark as the industry's premium entertainment experience. The system, which incorporates the laser digital intellectual property IMAX exclusively licensed from Eastman Kodak and Barco's unique laser innovations, represents the biggest R&D initiative in IMAX's history and will enable IMAX® dome theatres and IMAX's largest screens to deliver the highest-quality digital content available with greater brightness and clarity, a wider color gamut and deeper blacks.

"For nearly 30 years, IMAX technology has enabled our organization to inspire learning and discovery in our community. The IMAX Experience immerses and engages audiences unlike any other tool or technology. There are many aspects influencing The IMAX Experience, ranging from the theatre layout and seating to the size of the screen and the quality of the films, yet the projection system is the piece connecting it all together," said George Smith, President and CEO, TELUS World of Science Edmonton. "We're very excited about IMAX's ground-breaking laser technology and proud to support their new technology which will not only deliver a more immersive and visceral movie-going experience, but also allow us to offer a greater variety of IMAX digital content previously unavailable to us."

"The TELUS World of Science - Edmonton is a world-class center of education and we are honored to be a part of their revitalization project that is driven by our shared spirit of innovation and discovery," said Larry O'Reilly, President, Worldwide Sales, IMAX. "We applaud the vision of our valued, long-time partner that will be among the first to transition to our next-generation laser solution - a technology both the TELUS World of Science - Edmonton and IMAX believe will be by far the most advanced projection system available for many years to come."

The TELUS World of Science - Edmonton will begin upgrades to its IMAX theatre on September 3, 2013, and reopen the theatre on December 26, 2013. In addition to new seating, a new and larger IMAX screen and new IMAX audio system, the $3.8 million renovation project will install an IMAX xenon-based digital projection system before it transitions to IMAX's dual 4K laser system in 2014.
