LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., March 20, 2012 -- MacGillivray Freeman Films has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the exciting new space film Hidden Universe, the first 3D giant-screen film to explore the latest advances in astronomy and show how the universe was formed using re-mastered images from the world's largest telescopes, cutting-edge CGI, and some of the most accurate physics simulations ever created.

Slated for release to IMAX and other giant-screen theatres in Spring 2013, Hidden Universe is produced by Stephen Amezdroz of Australian-based December Media and directed by Russell Scott. This is the first collaboration between MacGillivray Freeman Films and December Media.

"Hidden Universe is a story of human endeavor and ingenuity, frontier science and incredible discovery, that looks back to the dawn of time and gives us a dramatic new view of the cosmos," said Amezdroz. "The film offers a compelling picture of how scientists believe the universe began, starting with simulations that show the formation of the universe's first stars, to today's highest resolution images of such celestial structures as the Whirlpool Galaxy and Crab Nebula captured with the world's most powerful telescopes and re-mastered into giant-screen 3D images."

"Space films have a long and successful track record of performing well at the giant-screen box office, and Hidden Universe will continue that trend," added Bob Harman, Director of Distribution at MacGillivray Freeman Films. "The film promises to change our view of the universe and give giant-screen moviegoers another exciting and immersive 3D experience that the IMAX medium was designed to deliver."

Hidden Universe combines the most awe-inspiring astronomical images with a guided tour into the world of state-of-the-art telescopes -- including the VLT, Vista and James Webb telescopes -- and those about to be built, ever more powerful tools grounded in our eternal quest for knowledge and comprehension of nature of which we are a part. Audiences will travel back across time to experience the evolution of the universe itself, from the Big Bang to today, while exploring the compelling relationship between the universe and the human mind -- the most complex known entity anywhere, apart from the universe itself.
