2 Million Viewers Take the Plunge with the IMAX® Theatre Film Sharks 3D and Discover Nature's Ultimate Yet Endangered Predator in a Whole New Way

Latest episode in 3D Entertainment's unique marine film trilogy is the second-highest grossing IMAX theatre documentary film released in 2005

London, United Kingdom, March 8, 2006 -- 3D Entertainment, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society are pleased to announce that last week SHARKS 3D drew in its 2 millionth viewer worldwide since the film's release in the spring of 2005. The film has established itself as the second-highest grossing IMAX theatre documentary film released last year with $12 million in box office revenue as of Dec. 31, 2005. Sharks 3D has been shown at 44 IMAX theatres in 13 countries and grossed a cumulative $14 million to date ($8.5 million domestically).

Described by The Chicago Sun-Times as the "impressive work of director Jean-Jacques Mantello and a crew of daredevil underwater cinematographers led by Gavin McKinney," Sharks 3D is an IMAX theatre documentary that offers audiences an astonishing up-close encounter with these wild, fascinating and endangered animals that have been in existence since a million years before the dinosaurs roamed the earth.

"We are thrilled with the great interest for our film among audiences from all corners of the globe," said 3D Entertainment's Chairman Fran?ois Mantello. "This achievement is due in no small part to the commitment shown by IMAX exhibitors. Among the most successful US venues are the New England Aquarium, the Tennessee Aquarium, Moody Gardens, the Virginia Aquarium, the Las Vegas Luxor, and Chicago Navy Pier IMAX theatres. Overseas, impressive results have also been seen in Sydney (Australia), Berlin (Germany), Vancouver (Canada), Moscow (Russia) and Vienna (Austria)."

"I am truly honoured to be associated with Sharks 3D and overwhelmed by the response to the film by audiences and critics alike," said Jean-Michel Cousteau. "Sharks deserve our attention and protection, as they can't survive this onslaught. If even a handful of the two million moviegoers to have seen this film have come away with a heightened awareness of the importance of marine conservation, the oceans will be better off."

"In 2002 governments meeting at the World Summit on Sustainable Development agreed to reverse the rate of loss of biodiversity by 2010 including in the marine world," said Klaus Toepfer, UNEP's Executive Director. "Our valuable association with 3D Entertainment has allowed us to convey the importance of marine wildlife conservation to vast audiences, and we are thrilled this project has been so well received across countries and cultures."

With 59 screen engagements and counting (see the full list below), Sharks 3D continues its rollout at select IMAX theatres in 2006, among them the Omaha Zoo, the IMAX theatre in Quebec City, the Science Museum of London, At-Bristol, the Birmingham ThinkTank, the Prague Oskar IMAX Cinema City, the Suntory Museum in Osaka, the Kuwait Scientific Centre and the brand new Paragon Cineplex IMAX theatre in Bangkok.

Sharks 3D is the second installment in 3D Entertainment's inspiring trilogy of marine-themed stereoscopic films for IMAX theatres. The first episode, Ocean Wonderland 3D, which sheds light on the crucial function of the endangered coral reef system, was released in February 2003 in association with UNEP and the WWF. The film has grossed over $26 million in revenue and is still playing at select IMAX theatres in the US, Western Europe, Japan and Australia. Dolphins & Whales 3D (wt), the third and final episode in the series, is currently being shot at various locations around the world.

Sharks 3D is produced by 3D Entertainment and McKinney Underwater Productions Inc. Directed by Jean-Jacques Mantello, filmed by Gavin McKinney and executive produced by Francois Mantello, Sharks 3D features an original score composed by Christophe Jacquelin and performed by the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra. Sharks 3D is distributed worldwide by 3D Entertainment in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme and is endorsed and supported by Ocean Futures Society, Reef Check and PADI’s Project Aware.

Sharks 3D is recommended for general audiences.
